Week of September 26, 2022 Small World Seafood Update

Hello everyone!!! I think i confused a few of you with my email yesterday concerning regional shipping. So, let me start off with talking about that. First of all, we are NOT changing anything we are doing. Order forms still go out Wednesday for pick ups in Fairmount and 444 N 4th St on Thursdays along with your order form on Thursdays for pick ups Friday in Center City.

Some of you have been driving into the city to pick up. Some of you have moved out of the city. Some of you can not pick up Thursdays or Fridays. Some of you have been asking us to come out to the burbs. Well, we think we found a solution to these problems and obstacles blocking you from good seafood.

We've started doing some regional shipping within 20 miles too. The way it works is that you sign up for another email list on the “how it works” page.

We send out order forms for that service over the weekend. You have from Saturday noon til Sunday 8pm to order. We partner with a deliver service that brings it to you on Tuesday between noon and 5pm.

Now, one of the things we have been working on for over a year is learning how to blast freeze and vac pack fresh fish to maintain its quality and freshness. It took a lot a experimenting and we now feel confident that we nailed. All fresh fish will be shipped that way. For two pound packs of salmon or tuna or sword, we pack the fish so that you can take out pieces individually. For things like trout or bronzini, we pack them two at a time, back to back.

So if you know anyone who lives a little further out or you are interested, sign up for that email list. C'est tout.

Aanyway, weather systems have been causing all kinds of messes on the eastern seaboard and our friends up in Canada. This week should be mussels from PEI but they are dealing with the ravages of Fiona so we will do clams again. They are trying to get the island back to normal and no one is harvesting mussels this week.

The featured fishes of the week will be coming from other spots. So, first up is branzini from Greece!!! We will be selling them either head off and boneless (butterflied) in sets of two fish per order or head ON and bone IN for those who want the whole fish experience. We recommend one fish per person. At $12 per fish, this is quite a discount from what restos charge. Anywhere from $32-$45 per fish??? Whatever...

Second up is a fish we haven't seen since the spring. Wahooooooooooo!!! Come on, shout it out with me people!!! Also known as Ono in Hawaii, this is one of the great steakier fish out there with tons of flavor, beautiful texture and just melts in your mouth!! You can roast it, pan sear it or grill it. We leave the skin on to bind the fish together so that it doesn't flake apart. You can remove it after cooking or eat around it. Keep the skin on. Trust me. Keeps the moisture in..

Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops are on the menu as is pasteurized crab meat.

With Yom Kippur next week, we will have plenty of smoked fish available including smoked trout fillets and more of our tuna spread. Also, don't forget the marinated fish. Anchovies, sardines, herring...Also, some of you still need some gefilte fish for that holiday. We brought in a small shot and then that'll be it until Passover so if you like it and want to load up for the winter, this is the week to do it. It comes frozen so you can have some til you are ready.

As I said, the shellfish this week will be littleneck clams again. Not sure about oysters yet. Octopus is back so make some to go along with bronzini.

And that's it for today. I know, I know, lots of words. But, hey, lots if info too, no?

Peace

Robert Amar
