HELLO EVERYBODY!!!
Boy, what an emotional roller coaster this past week (and month and year, Oysh!). I know that many people are super happy and many people are not in this country. I would love to think that all of our problems will be solved but that isn't the case, unfortunately. For a small moment, though, it was nice to see people in the city happy regardless of the politics. I haven't really seem much of that this past year other than when you all pick up seafood.
Thank you to everyone who bought some of the featured items, Soom and Pairing Salts last week. I hope you had as much fun with them as we did. This week, we won't have special items because, well, to be honest, it takes a bit of planning and everyone was out of their friggin minds last week so......
Next week, we will be having an extravaganza of items. Or a plethora. Maybe you want to call it an avalanche or a full bag. You can pick your own hyperbole. Since next week will be the last week before Thanksgiving and since we will be closed the week of Thanksgiving for reasons provided last week, we thought we would feature a bunch of big hitters plus a couple of new ones. In order to do this more effectively, we will have two, yes 2, order forms next week. One will be on the Monday email to pre-order items such as cheese, cinnamon babka and bagels (more about that next week) while the Wednesday email will have the normal seafood order form plus those items in limited quantity. It's a little hard to predict how much you want combined with the time it may take make a few items. Getting pre-orders on them would be very helpful.
Now, onto this week's stuff. Most have you have seen this storm Eta knocking around the gulf like a slot machine ball. It is causing all kinds of trouble in the gulf and up the Eastern seaboard into the Carolinas. So, we will (as some of you know by now) focus on Northern fish. Everyone loved those bay scallops last week but they won't be available this week (hopefully next week when the weather clears up for transport). This week, though, we start to see a wonderful northern fish that many here relate to the Christmas season. Smelts!! Fresh smelts!!! These little beauties are from Eastern Canada and come dressed meaning head off and gutted. They are simple to cook. Simply toss in flour and sautee in a hot pan for a few minutes. Squeeze a little lemon over it and salt it and snack away. You can eat the bones but some like to remove them after they are cooked. It's all good. No judgement here. Another fun recipe is this one right here:

Also, swordfish is back on the menu!!! We have had such a great time with sword this past few months. We've shown you what really nice sword can taste like. It will be a decent weekend so another shot are grilling may be in offering.
And, finally, black bass fillet!! Many have been asking about black bass. From now into February is, in my opinion, the best time for black bass. The waters are getting colder and they are getting fatter. Translation? Better tasting, thicker and juicier meat. The fillets will come skin on. These little babies come from New Jersey so really close and really fresh.
Mussels are on the agenda this week. Fresh Jumbo Lump crabmeat from Venezuela is around as well. For those who aren't familiar with it, this crabmeat comes from the same blue crab that is local to US from Maryland to Louisiana. Really terrific stuff. Salmon is still good and cheap and, well, that's it i guess.
Remember, next week is the last week before Thanksgiving. We will be closed the week of the holiday so that will be your last chance to load up on some of the featured items and seafood items such as oysters, shrimp, crab meat and fish that can be frozen for the holiday. Next Monday will be an order form along with the usual one on Wednesday.
I will leave you with this one last thing. Emotions have been all over the place last week and everyone has more or less calmed down. Change, however, doesn't come in fits and bursts. It come in a slow drudge through muck. Only an unyielding focus gets us to where we want to go. But many things are out of our control. What is not out of our control is how we relate to our family, our friends, our neighbors and our community. Positivity, above all, and hope in the face of darkness isn't always easy to come. Unless you are this guy. What an inspiration.....
