NOVEMBER 4, 2020

 HELLO EVERYBODY!!!

I don't even....Actually all I know is that half of this country will be upset and think the world is about to end. The other half will just think the world is about to end. I, repeating the Serenity Prayer a thousand times to myself, think that the only thing we can truly control is what we do for our families and community. it's going to be a long few weeks. I think food can relieve some tension. Cooking and eating has always done that for me and I wish that for you.

So, onto fish for this week. Striped bass from Maryland looks beautiful! The price has dropped a touch down to $15lb or $30 for a 2lb bag. We have beautiful dry Peruvian bay scallops. These little gems are so fun to work with. I posted a couple of recipes on the website, smallworldseafood.com that could be nice to play with. Here is one:

Super lump crab meat is no longer available but, just in the nick of time, Venezuela has opened production of fresh crab meat! Yay!! We will have fresh Jumbo lump for $24lb. This crab is hyper-pasteurized just like fresh milk so it has a 10 day to 14 day shelf life. Of course, the fresher the better.

Raspberry Points from PEI are the oysters of the week. Frozen mahi is replacing frozen cod for a bit. Clams are back in style and we've added smoked trout back into the mix for smoked fish.

The first of our two features this week comes from Pairing Salts (pairingsalts.com). Three blends will be offered, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot. Check out Atsuko's website for information and ideas of how to use them. The Riesling would be great with bay scallops and Pinot would go great with salmon. But you figure it out and have fun with it.

The second feature comes from the  Zitelman sisters (sorry for the misspelling on Monday). They produce an excellent small batch tahini along with a chocolate tahini spread that could replace your nutella and Silan, a date syrup that goes great in a salad or pancakes. They will be sold as a sampler pack of around 11oz to 12oz each. Great stuff as well. Check out their website, soomfoods.com. Amy has a great cookbook called Tahini that me and Andy just loved. It is going to be released November 10th if this world doesn't explode.

Both producers are from Philly and we love that. You can reach out to them for ideas of how to use their products and their stuff makes great gifts to send to people, me thinks. Speaking of gifts, gift cards are now available from us. You can do that from our website or from the order form. Just go to the 'MORE' tab. It's easy and can be emailed to anyone you like...or don't like but have to.

Anyway, Let's all just fake it til we make it this week. It ain't over til it's over and any other cliche you can think of to stay relsatively sane.  Here is the order form, neighbors:
