HELLO EVERYONE!!
WAIT!!!
STOP!!!!
You. Yeah, YOU! The one that goes right to the bottom, clicks on the order form and doesn't read what I write. Don't do that! And you know who I am talking about! I want to explain how this works so we don't get dozens of emails asking questions that I am answering right now, okay? It drives me friggin crazy!!
So, slow down and let me explain. We will have some non-seafood items for sale this week. They will all be available for pick up when we deliver seafood at the normal times. We need to get pre-orders this time around because some items need more prep time than others. This will make sure we have enough although we may still run short. If we do sell out, you can always contact the people directly and get more. We won't mind.
Some things you should know about some of these things. First off, the cheese has a long shelf life and will last til Thanksgiving. The bagels come fresh but can be sliced and frozen but I am sure most of you know that. The babka can be frozen. The puff pastry and croissant dough will come frozen so you can do what you wish with it when you wish to you it.
Items for sale this week will be a greatest hits plus a few extra fun things.
1. Cheese $26 for 4 4oz each. Ann from Third Wheel Cheese Co in West Philly has been knocking it out of the park with really great unique cheeses that you rarely see out there. Besides selling cheeses, she is also involved with a thing called Joybox (phillyjoybox.com). This is a great service that combines several vendors to offer pantry items for home. They are doing a great Thanksgiving if you are looking for something like that. Check them out. The cheeses this week will be:
-Livey Run Dairy, Interlaken NY, Chevre, pasteurized goat milk
Herb flavored fresh goat cheese
-Goat Rodeo Farm, Allison Park PA, Bamboozle, pasteurized goat/cow milk
Supple, semi-soft texture with notes of prosciutto and peanuts, rind washed with beer and shaped in a unique 3.5-4 pound loaf.
-Clover Creek Cheese Cellars, Williamsburg PA, Clover, raw cow milk
Cellar aged natural rind cheddar; bold flavor without being too sharp
-Crown Finish Caves, Brooklyn NY, Tubby, raw cow milk
Alpine-style traditionally handmade in a copper vat and washed in brine for one year. A bright yet brothy paste with a rind like crunchy peanut butter.
2. Cinnamon Babka $14. Shevy Sputz in Fairmount (shevysbabka.com). Shevy blew everyone away with her amazing Chocolate babka and I think it is time to try her unbelievable cinnamon one. No joke, I think it's better.
3. Pairing Salts 3 flavors $15, Atsuko Boyd, Filter Square (pairingsalts.com). Here blends were an absolute hit with those who bought them. Raves, I tell you. If you haven't tried them, get them and all of your dreams will come true. Ok, that's a heavy pitch but, you know what i am trying to say..
4. The Tahini Table Cookbook $25, Amy Zitelman, Fitler Square. Many of you tried the tahini and chocolate tahini sampler a couple of weeks ago and had so much fun with this super high quality product. But why give you the fish when we can give you a pole and she can teach you how to fish... or make hummus and other things, uh, with it, uh, yeah. Anyway, Amy from Soom foods (soomfoods.com) has come out with an amazing cookbook that was released November 10th. Yeah, last week. Get it. Lots of grest recipes for veggies and cookies and salads and stuff. Healthy eating people.
5. Frozen puff pastry and croissant dough, 1lb each $25, Oui pastries, CJ Cheyne, Old City (ouipastries.com). She is fabricating these wonderful bases for you to play with. You can make Wellingtons, puff balls, danishes, croissants and more. Roll them out the way you want and fill it with whatever you wish. Arts and crafts for adults. Er, ok, and the kids can help. Fine!
6. Fresh Bagels, Bart's Bagels (bartsbagels.com), West Philly. Kyle, who lives in Fairmount, and his brother Brett, who lives in Fishtown, own this business together. They are producing a half dozen of sesame or a half dozen of pumpernickel everything. Your choice.
Wow. This is definitely the longest email I've sent to you guys. Now fish. Peruvian bay scallops are back!! Yay! Sablefish (also known as Black Cod) is back! Both can be frozen if you want to save it for the holiday. We will be closed next week, remember? Salmon is up in price, no surprise, with the holiday coming up. Jonah crab claws will be for sale and fresh Jumbo lump is around but up a touch in price. Hey, it's still a good deal for the quality. Clams are the shellfish of the week and we'll have a bunch of different smoked fish items for you. All have a month shelf life and can be frozen.
Lastly, oysters. We will be teaming up with a local oyster farm down in Cape May called Sweet Amelias. We are pretty stoked about that.
Annnnddddd, whew!. You did it! You made it to the bottom of the email, read everything. Thanks. On a side note, it looks like the restos in Philly will be closed for indoor dining by the end of the week til after new year's. Sad. Another surge of Covid is upon us yet we can see that vaccines may be available soon enough. More isolation isn't exactly the best thing for most of us or our kids but we gotta stay focused, we gotta stay hopeful and, above all, we gotta stay together. I know that when I get stir crazy, I have to find inspiration to keep me sane. The best way for me to stay sane, ironically, is for me to be a little crazy and move my feet, as some of you know already. Here is a video that can be your 'break glass in case of emergency' in the next few weeks. Parov Stelar should be on everybody's playlist.
