HELLO EVERYONE!!!
Well, we had so much demand for the non-seafood stuff this week that we nearly sold out of everything!! You guys are awesome! For those who missed out, we will have a couple of extra on the truck but it'll be a first come first serve kind of thing. All of the vendors' info was on the last email so you are more than encouraged to reach out to them directly to get anything more.
Thanksgiving is coming up next week and we will be closed for the week (yay! & boo hoo at the same time). It looks like the turkey WON'T be on the menu for a lot of people this year. No large groups, no family gatherings for many. It's sad but we gotta do what we gotta do right now.
The selection this week has that in mind. We have sablefish on the menu this week. Also known as Black Cod, this fish freezes very well if you want to save it. Simply wrap each fillet in plastic wrap and put them in a freezer bag. Place in your fridge the night before to thaw out. Or, follow the recipe on our website, smallworldseafood.com, for making Japanese Miso Black Cod. Delish!
Peruvian bay scallops were such a hit a couple of weeks ago, we were able to bring some in (beating out another hurricane that made it's way through the Caribbean). These little beauties also freeze really well. A couple of great recipes on the site as well.
Fresh salmon fillet is up a touch in price. Hey, it's the holiday coming up and suppliers can't help themselves. Anyway, still inexpensive, relatively. Anyone who bought puff pastry could have a little fun making a Wellington. Just saying. Recipe posted for that as well. One note about the puff pastry and croissant dough. Once you thaw it out, you can use a rolling pin to thin it out some in order to make your delights. They are rolled out to a thickness that fits a freezer bag. That's all.
Jonah crab claws are around but in limited supply. Frozen Icelandic cod loins are back. Clams are the shellfish of the week. Oysters will be coming from our neighbors down in Cape May providing us with Sweet Amelias! Yay! Thanks, Lisa! We are excited about that. Oysters have a two week shelf life so you will be good for next Thursday. Venezuelan Jumbo lump is still around but a touch higher in price. ten day shelf life on that. Squid is switching back to tubes and tentacles for those thinking about stuffing calamari. Lots of frozen shrimp for cocktails and such.
Lastly, smoked fish. With all those bagels going out this week and us being closed next week, we thought we would offer a bunch of stuff. So, besides the usual Acme smoked salmon and chunky whitefish, we are also bringing back Spence smoked salmon for those who preferred it, smoked trout is back and trout roe is also on the menu. Smoked fish has a one month shelf life so you will be golden for next week for sure. When everybody is done stuffing themselves with smoked fish over the next couple of weeks, I better see some real sheen on ya when we see each other again. Ahhh...omega-3s.....goooood.....Don't you feel better when you eat more seafood?
And, that's it from me. I will be sending out one more email on Monday just to keep in touch. I hope you all have fun with the non-seafood items as well. These local businesses really appreciate your support. Don't forget to instagram some of what you are doing and tag us (@smallworldseafood) as well as those businesses.
To those who are out of town or cannot make it to pick up this week, we wish you a very happy Thanksgiving in advance.
