April 18 2022 Small World Seafood Update

Well, it feel so quiet out there..I think it's the calm after a happy, festive, family and friend focused weekend full of good food and good drink. I hope everyone had a beautiful Easter/Passover/Ramadan. Personally, my family celebrated our youngest's Bat Mitzvah beginning with a Seder for 80 people on Friday night and that was just just start of it with family coming from all over! Congratulations and mazel tov to Leah for doing such a great job on leading the service on Saturday. So proud of her.

Anyway, I know that so many of you enjoyed the labneh we sold last week. Pretty amazing stuff. We sold out pretty quickly so for those who missed out, don't be discouraged. We'll do it again in about a month.

And how about that bronzini, right? That fish was so fresh and so good. Tons of positive feedback on it from so many of you. The hamachi was a crowd pleaser, for sure and the city was full of crab cakes and scallops falling from the heavens. And our beautiful salmon on so many holiday tables.

Youi know, people often ask me how I like doing this compared to wholesale to restaurants. I tell everyone the same thing. It is a pretty special feeling to know that every week, we are all sharing in eating some of the same food together. As a community. Week in and week out, we share an experience together and that's the most beautiful thing of it. We are all connected. Even when the rest of the world is losing it's mind...

And the connection is not just simply the seafood that we eat. It is also the in the seafood that we source. I am very particular about knowing WHO is catching our fish or WHO is processing our seafood or WHO is farming our seafood. I think it matters. So many of you rave about our salmon salmon and for good reason. It is amazing stuff. You all know that we like to source it from the Faroe Islands and you should check out the place on youtube. Crazy beautiful.

I have never talked about the specific farm we like to source from but I think they deserve a shout out. The farm is called Hiddenfjord (check out their website, it's pretty amazing https://hiddenfjord.com/). This is a farm that takes everything they do seriously. They care about the fish, they care about the ocean and they care about the planet. You want to know why it tastes so good? They give a shit. You can taste the caring and dedication. I think that's always the case whether it is salmon or bronzini or labneh, frankly. Anyway, we are proud to partner with them and bring you their good stuff.

This week's selection is still up in the air since fishermen are just getting out. Hey, they gotta celebrate the holiday too or their families would be pissed. It's a thankless, hard job but we are grateful for what they do too.

Crab meat has taken another small tick downward in price so it will drop once again. Hokkaido scallops are around this week. Mussels are the shellfish of the week. Maybe oysters but not sure if they will be back yet. Anchovies (boquerones) and marinated sardines are around as are our kabayaki kippered salmon and smoke albacore spread.

Speaking of gratitude, I just want to say how grateful me and Andy are for you all. You enrich our lives. You always smile and have nice things to say when you pick up. You send of photos of what you cooked for yourselves and your families. You share your lives and routines with us and that is so special. Some of you tell us how we've changed your lives but you should know that you have all changed ours. We love you all. Really.

Anyway, I am going to stop with all the emo before I go Niagara Falls. Quite simply, thank you.

Look out for the order form Wednesday at 11am for Fairmount/444 N 4th St

or Thursday for Fitler/Rittenhouse/Washington Sq at 9am

Peace
