April 14 2022 Fitler/Rittenhouse/Washington Sq Only Order Form

Oh, man, if you hear me complain about how hot it is, please punch me in the nose to set me straight...Light punch...hahahaha...this weather...

Well, no one is immune to noticing that the price of lots of things have been going up. Gas prices, food prices, restaurant drink and food prices, up, up ,up. My goal is to always stay clear of items that jump in price and gravitate towards 'the deal'. But we protect you all from that by bringing you stuff that beats the market, so to speak.

The first special feature this week is a fish that most of you love and rightly so. Such a great fish. Branzino!!! These gorgeous fish from Greece will come to you in two different ways. Either whole scaled and gutted or butterflied, meaning head OFF and bone out. The whole fish are 1-1.25lb each and the butterflied fillets are approx. 8oz each so one fish per person is ideal. Now, to do something a little different, we will sell them 2 per order instead of larger portions. We have some great recipes on our site for both preparations, too.

One quick note, with the cost of fuel and material up, I anticipate that the price of these fish to go up going into the spring and summer so I would hedge and buy an extra bag and freeze it for the future. You can't lose. Freezes really well wrapped in plastic wrap and tossed into a zip lock. Just saying. Would be a good investment...

Next up is hamachi loin! This sushi grade fish also known as yellowtail in sushi restaurants is excellent for crudos or sushi rolls. It comes frozen, skin off and boneless and is top notch stuff. Lay out a beautiful crudo plate on your holiday table this weekend with sliced jalapeno and our ponzu sauce and be a start. These loins average between 1lb to 1.6lb and have a good four day shelf life after thawed. They also take really well to miso glaze and broiled just like black cod so you can always do a little half and half action.

Another fun item that is always nice on a weekend like this is Dungeness crab clusters!! These is super high quality crab from Nova Scotia that is frozen at sea and just packed with meat. Everyone who has had some of ours has raved and for good reason. They are that good!

One special feature this week that we are very proud to bring to you is a fresh labneh made by Merion Park Cheese company using milk from the stellar Erivan Dairy in Oreland, Pa. They call it Love-a-neh and I gotta tell ya, this is the best labneh I think I've ever had. Made in the Armenian tradition (which is arguably the best), this yogurt cheese is creamy like cream cheese with a tanginess and full flavor that is dynamite. Traditionally served up spread on a flat plate drizzled with olive oil nd some herbs, you can use pair it with beets, roasted mushrooms, veggies, jams, lamb, fruit, whatever! This is the real deal. Actually, it is the labneh that used by Zahav so that says something, no? Shelf life til middle of May so grab a couple.

Some things go up and some things go down. Crab meat? Went down. Yay! So same beautiful fresh Venezuelan Jumbo lump crab meat and down to $28 per pound! Shelf life is about 10 days and cannot be frozen. However, you can make crab cakes and freeze those uncooked. The binding protects the crab meat.

Hokkaido scallops, what can say? Are these the best scallops you've ever had or what or close? I'm telling you, sushi grade and melt in your mouth!

As for smoked fish items, we made another batch or Smoked Albacore spread that is delish! Aaaand, we made another hot smoked Faroe salmon fillet Kabayaki style meaning soy/honey glazed that is sooo good. Not just good cold, by the way. Heat some up and serve in over rice as you would will unagi. Oh man...

One note this week about oysters. There are none. Don't hate me. There are just no oysters from up north right now. Part of the reason is a norovirus outbreak with West Coast oysters shutting many farms down in British Columbia causing high demand for East Coast oysters and depleting anything available to many of us over here. It is what it is. Canadians...

Clams are the shellfish of the week. Marinated anchovies (boquerones) and sardines are around again. Mushrooms are around as are all the other usual suspects.

Anyway, blah, blah, blah. Have it people. Here is the order form. Don't forget to bring a bag! Don't forget to bring a bag! Don't forget to bring a bag!
