Week of September 19, 2022 Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!! Well, September is rolling along with more fun stuff!! We had bacon and labneh last week that flew out the door!!! Swordfish was so friggin good. What a difference when it comes at a time of year when it is at its best.

This week will be a special week for some of you as you prepare for Rosh Hashanah feasts Sunday night. So, first thing we will do is make available the option of selling you full sides of salmon. These will range from 3-4 pounds each. We will bag them, weigh them that morning and when you pick up, we will give you a total which you can pay at the truck. As we did with the octopus and the hamachi, because they will be variable weights, we will have a $1 deposit payment on our online form to secure your side. We will give the balance when you pick up. Understood? Bring payment. We do not have your cc on file.

So, features of the week!! The first fish is more of a beautiful thing!!! Fresh yellowfin (AHI) tuna!!! Yes, this is the season for gorgeous Canadian tuna! All the migratory fish making their way up there, which includes albacore and sword, are fattening up in clean, cold and pristine waters. This is the good stuff!!! Sushi grade, baby!!! Take advantage..

Second up is beautiful fresh haddock fillet!!! Haddock is the prince in the Cod family. Such a beautiful firm, flaky, sweet tasting fish. These haddock fillets from New England are smaller than the haddock coming from Scandinavia but they are delish. And so affordable too. great for fish and chips and great just simply roasted in the oven at 425F with olive oil, garlic, seasoning, lemon for 12-15 minutes...

The first special feature for this week will be gefilte fish!! Ok, I know not everyone is jumping up and down for joy about gefilte fish but I gotta tell ya, this is the good stuff. In fact, we sold a ton of them and everyone raved!! These loaves come from Raskin's in Brooklyn and are the "Kosher for Passover" version meaning no fillers. They come frozen and you can roast them from frozen to a light airy fish loaf. We have a video on how to do it.

Now, this isn't just a Jewish thing. Almost every culture that favors fish makes a fish mousse or quenelle or meatball from fish. This is just one version and worth having fun with. After you cook it, you chill it and serve it cold. Hopefully, we have enough..we sold out so fast last time...

The second item we will feature is from a new small business that we adore. Second Daughter Baking Co. is a small company led by two sisters that make stellar stuff. They are making delish honey apple cake loaves for us to bring to you!!! We tried some out last week and, well, drool...Wow, were these things good!!! Hopefully we will have enough of these too...Remember, like voting, early and often..

Also, by popular demand and just finding the time kind of thing, we will bring back our house smoked kippered salmon and our smoked albacore tuna spread!!! The first will be flavored with Mediterranean notes and the tuna spread, well, you know how good that is!!!

Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week. Oysters? Not sure yet. Frozen grouper fillets will be available again and fish cakes are around too!!

Anyway, this may be a little too much excitement for a Tuesday morning but hopefully the good thoughts carry you through the rest of it.

Peace
