Week of August 15, 2022 Small World Seafood Update

I don't know about you but the weather the past few days has been just delicious. I'm not ready to give up on hot weather just yet but a cool breeze hitting my armpits on a nice day? Priceless..Now, if I only had the nerve to wear a kilt once in a while....

Aaaanyway, love to see what you all do with our seafood! Sushi rolls, poke bowls, grilled and roasted trout, crab cakes, linguini and clams, feta over salads...I mean, honestly, you guys are cooking up a mighty storm! And considering what you would pay for the same dishes if you went out to a restaurant, well, that would make you culinary and clever. Good on ya.

So, I mentioned to you over the past couple of weeks that August would be fun. Well, the fun continues! Guess what we have coming in this week? Soft shell crabs!!! Yes indeed, August is a shorter season for these molting babies. Very short. Like this week. These will be coming from Maryland and we couldn't be more excited. Now, a lot of people pan fry them or grill them but in my book, Mark Bittman's slow cook method posted on our website is just, well, unbelievable. With pasta or without, it is fantastic. Oh, and we clean them for you too so they will be ready to go!

Also up on deck is a new landing in New Bedford, Mass of fresh sushi grade yellowfin tuna!!! Can never get enough of tuna right? This is a great time of year for tuna out of New England. We will have nori sheets available this week and don't forget our ponzu sauce!

There is no more fresh crab meat, sadly, for a while. However, there are plenty of Hokkaido scallops which are just fantastic! Best scallops ever...

Salmon from Faroe Islands is still holding price at $28 for two pounds. Good news on the price going down, right? And, being sushi grade, you can have quite a night this week!

One special thing we are trying out is a different kind of frozen fish to go along with our delish frozen cod. Some of you have been asking us about it and we finally found some we really like. And that is frozen barramundi fillets! These come skin off and are just delish. You will get 4 fillets per order (approx 8oz each) frozen and vac packed coming in a little over two pounds per order. Great stuff, $24 for two pounds. Barramundi, by the way is a type of bass coming from the South Pacific. Mainly Australia.

Also, coming back by popular demand are more fish cakes!!! Made from fluke only (no shellfish). These went over so well and people loved them so much that we made more. Four per order, frozen, ten bucks. Thaw them out, pan sear them or roast in the oven at 425F for 15 minutes...delish..

Mussels are the shellfish of the week. Oysters will be Black Magics from PEI. That's a new one for us. Excited. All the other usual suspects will be around as well.

Anyway, we will have some fun stuff coming to wrap up the month of August and close the door on summer. So stay tuned with that.

And that's it from me, folks.

Peace

Robert Amar
