Week of Dec 6th, 2021 Small World Seafood Update

Hello, everyone! that was a fun week of loading up on fish again! Plus, lots of crudos and poke bowls and pan fried flounder. Lots of crab cakes, I am sure, too!

First off, a reminder that Christmas week and New year's week, we will be putting out the order form Wednesday for Thursday pick up instead of Friday pick up to give everyone plenty of time to get prepared for those eves.

I stated a little while back that I love the winter for fish. I really do. We get to see some varieties that are a little harder to get in the summertime. Also, restaurants slow down so we get to engage a few in making some fun things for us. For example, we took some of the fresh albacore tuna last week over to El Camino to smoke some for us. We made this amazing smoked tuna spread that is mind blowing good and just addictive as the Acme chunky whitefish. It is denser and a real treat.

This week, we are featuring a fish that so many of you have been asking for. We haven't done it in a while. Fresh branzini!! We are going to present them to you in two different ways. First is 'butterflied' meaning without the head and bones but with the two fillets still connected down to the tail. Each butterflied portion is around 8oz each so perfect for one person. We will also have some whole branzini scaled and gutted but with the head on and bone in for those who like it that way. Now, remember that this is not a cheap fish but you kind of have to compare it to what you would pay in restaurants for the equivalent. We will be selling the butterflied branzini for $36 for 2lb bag or 3 whole fish for $36. Now, one butterflied portion could sell in a restaurant for anywhere from $26 to $38 per order. Yours will cost $9 for butterflied and $12 for whole. That seems like a pretty good deal to me and great way of doing a little Mediterranean night for dinner.

Speaking of Mediterranean things, last year we had quite a frenzy selling olive oil. You see, one of our customers, Tom, has an estate Villa dei Sogni in Bevagna, Umbria with an olive grove. He has the olives cold pressed after harvest and sealed in 5L drums. He bottled some for us last year (2019 harvest) and it sold out in like 45 minutes! Well, this year, he was able to return there for a month and came back with the 2020 harvest oil. This stuff is like no ordinary olive oil. Raw and unfiltered. Now please, for fairness sake, I know that a few of you want to buy them for gifts but we will limit the amount to 3 per person max. Let's spread the love.

The salmon this week goes back to the Faroe Islands. Once again, sushi grade for those looking for poke bowls. Such amazing salmon from cold, pristine waters of the North Atlantic.

Clams are the shellfish of the week but we will do that with a twist. We sold sold frozen chopped clams a couple of times and noticed that some of you really like it that way. So, we will offer both frozen chopped and fresh live clams for those who prefer it that way. Win win. Also, Pemaquid oysters were a hit a few weeks back so more of those this week. All other usual suspects are around too.

Anyway, I know, I know.. that's a lot of words....

Look out for the order form Wednesday at 11am for Fairmount/444 N 4th St
