November 8, 2021 Small World Seafood Update

So much fun with glazes and marinades this past weekend! Plus some tasty Tomato Lonsa and quite a great foodfest by so many of you! And how about that kingklip, right?

First of all, just a couple of notes. For those who missed it, we moved the times at 19th & Wallace St ending 15 minutes earlier than before. So that stop is from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Also, the stop at Woodstock & Parrish St has moved to 22nd & Brown St in front of the playground by Bache Elementary. Those times are 1:45pm to 3pm.

Also, as we did last year, we will be closed the week of Thanksgiving. There's a reason. There is no really good fresh fish that week with people focussed on turkeys and pigs and other stuff. And, as we did last year, we will be doing a kind of sales extravaganza!! So, to go along with what we will be selling that week (next week, not this coming week), we will have all kinds of goodies such as babka, pie dough, Canadian bacon, bagels maybe, more lonsa, escargots and other surprises. So get prepared to pick up some really good stuff you could use for one of the best food weeks of the year!

As far as fish for this week is concerned, well, I am not sure yet. There are some possibilities beginning to emerge but  there is too much blurriness for me to tempt the gods. I've exhausted by token calls to them over the weekend begging for a parking spot near my home on Woodstock St. Ughh..what the heck anymore..(okay, maybe striped bass and swordfish..but don't tell anybody..)

One thing I am super excited to see again is fresh Jumbo Lump crab meat from Venezuela! Yay!! Crab and crab meat had been a mess for many, many months but we are starting to see a descent in prices and we are happy for that!. Besides, so many people have stayed away from it that demand is lower than supply right now causing the downward pressure on price. Now, it won't be as cheap as last year's prices but at $32 per pound, it is much cheaper than the $50+ per pound for pasteurized in markets right now! Plus, this is blue crab meat which is the same as our local blue crab we all know and love. Out with the scallops, in with the crab. We can live with that, right?

Also, mussels are the shellfish of the week. Oysters are Riptides out of Maine. Plenty of shumai to go with our ponzu sauce. Fish stock is back so time to make seafood stews and clear out freezer space for next week. Bibou parsley garlic butter is back in too. Cocktail sauce will stick around around and would go great on a crabcake. Just saying..and I think that's all I should say at this point

I know, I know.. that's a lot of words....

Look out for the order form Wednesday at 11am.

Peace
