September 7, 2021 Small World Seafood Update
Well, I hope everyone had a super relaxing weekend!! I know that so many of you had such fun with swordfish and scallops and salmon over the weekend. Many of you send us pics of whatr you prepare and we love to post them to our Insta. But really, we are so touched that you share your dinner experiences with us. It feels like we are there with you and that's a special kind of communal thing. With all the stupid crap going on in the world, it is pretty reassuring that so much beauty also exists. Oh, and a happy Jewish new year to other members of my tribe. I wish everyone, and I mean everyone, a healthy, happy and prosperous year to come.
As for seafood for the week, it's a little tricky with the holiday yesterday. Product is just rolling in or will be rolling in but it's a little hard to tell right now. I do know that we will be getting a shipment of fresh Mahi for this week which is so great! Even though the summer is unofficially over, it ain't over yet so let's keep those grills fired up until they freeze is what me thinks.
Second up, the salmon of the week will be Faroe Islands salmon fillet. I think this may be most people's favorite 'salmon salmon'. Sushi grade but exceptional cooked through, too, we are happy that it is still around. Farmed sustainably in pristine, cold and clean waters of the North Atlantic with a small production that isn't meant for the supermarket supply chain but for the restaurant supply chain. Yup, there is definitely a difference.
Scallops were so popular and delicious last week that we thought we should do them again this week. So we will! These gems were so tasty and I love the way people were so creative with how they prepared them in pastas and risottos and stirfrys. Just amazing. They weren't as cheap as they were a year ago but they are a helluva lot cheaper than buying them in a restaurant and you guys can prepare them just as good if not better at this point.
We may have another fish item but we shall see...
One fun thing we may have, though, instead of shrimp shumai this week will be a crab shumai! Don't melt or explode into confetti or crumble like a slat statue or whatever you do when you are freaking out. Breathe...just breathe... Yes, for those who love the shumai, we will offer these crab dumplings this week. What fun!
For smoked items, we will offer the whole the variety we did last week once again. For those who are celebrating Yom Kippur next week, THIS week is the week to load up on the good stuff. To add to the list, we are also offering a 1lb cheese selection from our favorite chees lady, Ann, from Third Wheel Cheese Co in West Philly. You will get a 1/4lb of four different cheeses that will make a great cheese plate. YUM!
Clams are the mussels of the week. Not sure of which oyster yet. All the sauces and glazes are available.
Aaaaaand, I think that's it from me. I am kind of looking forward to the new season coming up. I have to keep that in mind. I don't want to go into it with dread so I will look forward to it searching for the beauty of the nicer weather, the leaves changing, the kids going back to school and so on. There is beauty in that, for sure.
Look out for the order form Wednesday at 11am for Fsirmount/444 N 4th
or
9am for Fitler/Rittenhouse/Washington Squares
Peace,
