JUNE 1, 2021
HELLO EVERYBODY!!!
Well, that was a rain event if ever there was one! It felt like Forrest Gump when he was in Nam and it rained and rained and then just like that...it was over...Plants liked it, though.
Anyway, lots of bronzini being roasted and even grilled as well as tons of octopuses being cooked up for the first time by soooooooo many people!! Isn't it a thrill to continue to explore and cross your culinary limits? Many of you have been on this train with us for the past year and change and it is such a pleasure to see how much you have evolved in skill, plating and photography...just check out our Insta @smallworldseafood and you will see what I mean.
It was a nice little experiment to sell a product without a consistent weight such as octopus. We are glad we tried it out and this will open the door for a few more fun things that, otherwise, we would not have been able to sell. So stay tuned for some new things coming up.
As for this week's fish selection...I have no bloody idea!. First off, markets were closed yesterday everywhere as were most suppliers and the weather (remember that?) has been windy and rough. I spent the weekend at our beach house in Brigantine and I could tell you that the waters were really rough. Beautiful if you were looking out but I wouldn't want to be out there on a boat. Obviously, today is nicer but we won't see anything until Wednesday (we will know today, though, as boats start coming in...)
A couple of things I do know, however, is that the salmon variety this week will flip back to Arctic Char. Again, cooks up just like salmon and has been a nice surprise to so many people. It is also sushi grade so great for poke bowls and such. If you still haven't had it and were waiting for Atlantic salmon to come back, please try this fish. If you try it, all of your dreams will come true....Clams are the shellfish this week and that's all I got so far.
Not a bad thing. I am still in holiday mode in my brain, anyway, so I'm just being dumb dumb right now and I like it. I will start getting texts soon from suppliers but in the meantime I am going to milk this weekend for everything its got.
So, in honor of Memorial Day, I thought that we would take a stroll back to the 70's to a time of kitschy over-the-topness, embarassing reflections of how some of us used to look and act, secret envy for the courage to be free that way and toe tapping, hip shaking, hand flailing movements that are a must every time this song is played. Partaayyyy!!!!!!
