MARCH 23, 2021

 HELLO EVERYBODY!!!

This Weather! What a weekend!! My frontal cortex is tingling with dopamine surge! The back of my eyeballs are even starting to hurt, I'm enjoying this so much. Or maybe it's allergies. Who knows..

Aaaanyway, what a great time with striped bass and fluke last week! Lots of great photos on Instagram. We love seeing what you make with our stuff. It's a real thrill to see everybody upping their culinary skills.

I know it is hard to tell right now in Philly because it is so nice but the winds along the coast have been howling. This happens every March, actually. Northern wind currents are fighting with those coming from the South. Epic struggle every year for dominance. Unfortunately, it idles lots of boats that don't feel like risking it out there on torturous seas. So, it's a little tricky and requires a little more hunting in order to get what we need.

This week we will be featuring another fish that we may be seeing for the last time this season. Black bass from New jersey! It has been such a big surprise and we are filled with glee that you responded so well to this fish. And for good reason. It is soooo delicious! We have a couple of great recipes on our website, smallworldseafood.com for it.

Also, we will be featuring fresh mahi mahi fillet! We ran this a few weeks back and so many of you told us that you had never tasted mahi so good. Yeah. It's fresh and high quality. Remember how great the swordfish was? Same deal. Perfect for grilling this week or poaching or baking or pan searing. I'm talking tacos, tropical fruit salsas, blackening, jerking...All of that..Yum!!

Oysters this week will be Pemaquids out of Maine. Clams are on the menu this week. Bay scallops are looking to come in by mid week. Always excited for more. I love me my sauteed scallops with Bibou parsley butter over toast. OMG...Mushrooms are on the menu this week for youse guys. Brian will be primarily featuring King oysters which are fabulous for grilling or even cooking like scallops. Yeah, scallops. i will post a vid on the website. One more thing. Smoked salmon and whitefish are both kosher for Passover for those who are observing.

Speaking of, Passover begins this weekend for the tribe and Easter the following week. I know a few of you will be leaving to visit family for the holidays. More of you have your shots and I think that's great. I'm  happy that we are beginning to see the safe gathering of families. Mostly talking about fish, here, I would like to talk about something else. The egg. Yup, the egg.

The way I see it, both holidays coming up have a few things in common. They both occur at the beginning of spring. They both have messages of renewal and rebirth. They both use the egg to symbolize that. I won't get into the other similarities. There are many more. I just want to sit on this idea for now. The idea of birth and the beginning of life. We are starting to see the trees bud. Tulips are poking out of the ground. The daylight is conquering the night. Days are now longer than nights....

And us. We've been through a dark year. Lots of idle time. Lots of things we wanted to do but couldn't. Lots of things we DID do but never thought we would. Many of us took advantage of the immobility to explore making things, reading more, exercising more, remodeling our homes, connecting more with those we care about and contemplating life much, much more. Yet, we realized there were certain things we had always wanted to do but procrastinated. When you have certain freedoms taken away from you, it is important and necessary to think about what you would do when those freedoms are restored. Would I travel more? Would I move to a place I always dreamed about? Will I finally take the risk to start a new career? Will I seize the day?

The egg in its simple and smooth shape offers no hint of its beginning or end. Run your eyed around it and it is impossible to determine where it starts.  Its elegant beauty in its blankness allow us to imagine what is happening inside. That's what we all are right now. Spiritual Eggs with something happening inside. Let's think about that over the next couple of weeks. And then, it's time to crack it open and become what we are meant to be and do what we were meant to do. It will be time to live again and this time we want to live in a fuller way. Life is too short as we've discovered. Carpe Diem. Seize the day. Let's come out of this better than the way we came in. If many of us chose to just keep kicking the can down the road on things, now is the time to pick up that can. Time stops for no one. Let's start living it with purpose. With meaning. With doing.

Anyway, on the lighter side of things and with Passover coming up, here is a unique perspective on things from a very funny comedian.  I love this guy...
