 HELLO EVERYONE!!

Boy, what a hot one! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend as best as possible. I gotta say it was a little bit of a weird one. I'll just keep it at that.

So, here's a good one. This past Friday, a young man was picking up seafood at Taney Park from us and tells me that he has to set an alarm now to remind himself to order. Otherwise he'll forget. He had forgotten once and his wife was pissed. There he is in his office the day before seeing a patient when an alarm goes off. His patient asks him if her time is up. He replies that, no, in fact it is just a reminder to order fish from Small World Seafood. She says, I am also a customer. She tells him she ordered lobster meat earlier and she totally understood if he needed to take a break to order in case it sold out. True story. Small world, indeed. The things that bind us together are right here.

We saw lots of lobster rolls and jumbo shrimp dishes being made this weekend. That always makes us happy. In fact, I think that the response to the large shrimp has been so positive that we will continue to sell them along with the smaller shrimp. Kind of like what we do with the crab meat. In the same way that each crab meat has it's place, each shrimp has its place. One is not better than the other. As I always asked of chefs when they asked for a product.."what are you going to do with it?"

If you plan on doing a cocktail or a scampi, the larger shrimp are perfect for that. If, on the  other hand, you are making a seafood pasta dish or paella, no need for the jumbo shrimp. A nice shrimp salad also would be best served by smaller shrimp. One amazing thing you could do with the smaller shrimp is this version of 'Bang bang shrimp' There is always a place for each.

Which brings us to the feature of the week. I have one of them in mind so far. I'm waiting to hear back from boats locally to see what might look good for the other. What I definitely know we are going to do is Caribbean red snapper!. These wild snappers are coming from the beautiful island of Trinidad. They are larger fish ranging from 3 to 4 pounds so too large to do whole fish this time but they will definitely produce nice fillets! There are some good recipes on our website for snapper but be creative. The whole planet eats snapper and its preparations span the culinary world.

Lastly, I would like to welcome the pioneering group of people who stopped by the store last Thursdays between 3pm and 6pm to pick up seafood. It's convenient for many to come a little later in the day or live closer to 444 N 4th St. To those who live in Northern Liberties, Old City and even further south, let your friends know they could pick up there. Joining the group is as easy as going to our website and filling out a form. Easy parking in front as well. Lots of Fairmounters came as well.

Anyway, that's it from me. I need to get on the phone and see what's out there.

Thank you all, once again for your support and positive feedback. It means so much to us to be a part of your lives and you a part of ours.

Truly,

Robert Amar
