April 7, 2022 Fitler/Rittenhouse/Washington Sq only Order Form

Well, this was a week like no other on the supply side of things. Between the weather and the high cost of fuel, not many boats going out fishing. Their costs are higher and there isn't much of an appetite (no pun intended) on the part of suppliers to risk paying those potentially higher prices so they haven't gone out. Ugh...We are seeing this scenario occur with so many commodities. It's weird.

Anyway, life is about adapting to comes forward, right? The good news is that salmon is holding steady but may be dipping in a couple of weeks. Fresh jumbo lump car meat??? Well, that went down a touch to $31 from $33. Hey, when the cost goes down, we take the price down too, baby!

The one featured fish we could get our hands on was such a delight and surprise and couple of months back. Fresh walleye fillets from the Canadian Great Lakes!!! Now, this fish was a surprise for me too. Sooo good. Great flakiness, mild flavor. Just delish! And so many of you who shared your memories of growing up in the Midwest fishing and eating walleye. Priceless!

The salmon salmon of the week is gorgeous Faroe Island salmon from our favorite farm there. Just beautiful stuff. Sushi grade as well so great for poke bowls but dynamite roasted, pan seared or grilled. And with our miso glaze. Forget about it...

Now, the marinated anchovies and sardines were such a hit last week that we brought in more!! Why not make it a regular thing, no? And so reasonably priced. The anchovies are what are also known as Boquerones, and these things are all good for snacks, appetizers or to make a tapas spread. These are NOT canned. These are the fresh, packed in oil and vinegar kind. Wanna know what to do with them? Check out our Insta to see what others have done and I also made a vid posted to our website with some great ideas. My neighbors approved, FYI.

With Passover coming up next week, lots of people have been asking about gefilte fish. Well, I did some research to find the best around and found it from a smaller producer in Brooklyn called Raskin's. This is the producer for the very religious. Now we are going to sell 20oz gefilte fish loaves (gefilte fish is kind of like a ground fish loaf made from carp, whitefish and pike). These are frozen and formed into logs but are not cooked. They make loaves with filler and this ain't it. This is the good stuff. You will have to cook it yourself either in a sweet water bath or roasted in the oven. I posted a recipe on our site for it. Get it this week, though. We probably won't be able to get more next week.

Hokkaido scallops are around this week, thank the lord. How good are these scallops, huh? Mussels are the shellfish of the week. Oysters are Sherwood Island oysters from Connecticut. They are a little larger than the ones we normally carry and are similar to Blue Points. Great raw but also big enough to grill or broil with a little Rockefeller twist.

Our kippered salmon is still around made with our very own Mediterranean marinade. We've added Acme smoked trout to the list this week. Yay!! All the other usual suspects are around including Mycopolitan mushrooms!!

Anyway, blah, blah, blah. Have it people. Here is the order form. Don't forget to bring a bag! Don't forget to bring a bag! Don't forget to bring a bag!
