Week of May 16, 2022 Small World Seafood Update

Well, well, well! What a fun weekend with gorgeous trout and crab meat and scallops!! Not to mention some delish salmon tons of smoked and cure fish!! I don't know about you but I always feel better after eating seafood than after eating meat for dinner. More energy and, well, I don't know, better...

I've been having soooo many conversations lately about our relationship with food. Some of us seek out the adventure when it comes to eating food. Some of us seek out comfort and familiarity. And that's a good thing. Something to look forward to, always.

On the flip side, some of us have had negative or stressful relationships with food whether it is quantity or types of food. Some people have been extremely picky about the food they eat and that has led to feelings of shame and THAT has led to the lack of good feelings toward food.

Over the past two years, I can't tell you how amazing it is to hear so many of those people come up to us and tell us how much they now love a certain fish or shellfish. How they hadn't eaten a particular fish for many years and thanks to our service, took the chance and tried it only to discover that they liked it now! To all of you who have taken risks and tried something that may have elicited fear in the past and conquered that fear, I just want to say that I am so proud of you.

You are changing your relationship with food and, consequently, you are changing your relationship with the people you share food with. The healing power of food for the soul can not be under-estimated. Especially after the past two years. And kids learning to like seafood at an early age now because of our seafood? Well, don't even get me started on that because I may just go Niagara Falls on ya...

Anyway, onto the fish. This week, we bring a couple of great classics. One from the Northern east coast and one from the southern east coast. From the north, some beautiful fresh wild haddock fillet! This fish is the prince of the cod family. Firmer in texture and flaky with a sweet flavor, such an amazing fish to lay out in a roasting pan, olive oil, garlic, paprika, salt and pepper, at 425F for about 8-10 minutes. Oh my good how good is this fish. You can also pick up our dredge and pan fry or mix some beer into our dredge and deep fry for the best fish and chips. The best...

Second up is fresh wild and local mahi mahi from South Carolina!! Mahi mahi to some is just a fish taco fish but it is not. Fresh mahi is some of the best tasting of the local big fish that include swordfish and wahoo. Great on the grill, takes so well to heavy seasoning such as Cajun spice or jerk but also a nice citrus marinade too. These fish are larger in size so will cook up moist as hell. If you've ever had some in Florida or the Caribbean, this is the stuff..the good stuff...

Glad to tell you that Venezuelan Jumbo lump crab meat is still around. I don't think it is a sin to have too much of a good thing like this. Why? Well, because it good thing...

Hokkaido scallops are around again as well. Here is an item many have been afraid to cook at home but have come around. We have a great recipe on our website on how to cook them to perfection and now many of you are cooking them up like a pro!!

Faroe Island salmon is here too. How many good ways to prepare it? Roasted, broiled, miso glazed, poke bowled...you name it! This is the best salmon around. Hands down.

Mussels are the shellfish of the week. Yet another item many of you never cooked at home. This is the best cheap meal ever. Oysters will be Savage Blonds from PEI. Who used to shuck oysters at home before this? Huh? HUH???

All the other usual suspects will be around as well including our cured, marinated and smoked items. Just good stuff, people. Good for the body, good for the soul.

And that's all I got. Thanks for reading, by the way. It means a lot that you take the time. And for those who didn't make it down this far, you're a bananahead...

Look out for order form Fairmount/444 N 4th St at 11 am
