May 2, 2022 Small World Seafood Update
You know, I am not one to welcome a heavy downpour with adulation but well done, falling water, for washing away all that pollen stuff floating around everywhere...My eyes and nose thank you..
Aaaanyway, another amazing week of watching people make some beautiful dishes at home. Check out our Insta page. Impressive stuff and lots of ring molds..hmmm.
I have been so excited about the week coming up because, well, Mother's Day is coming. To me, it's one of the truly special holidays that forces you to travel into the recesses of your brain and explore and remember the truly special bond between us and our mothers. Whether they are still with us or not doesn't totally matter because, well, they are still with us even when they are gone.
And, besides our biological mothers, we also need to praise the women in our lives that nurtured us as their very own and helped shape us into who we are. They are our mothers too. And to the mothers out there, it is a time to accept the thanks for all the good you have done without fretting over what could've been done better. This is the time to think only about the good because it WAS good and YOU did that. You! Well done to all.
So this week deserves some special stuff, don't you think? The first featured item this week will be fresh Albacore tuna!!! Yay!! This is sushi grade tuna that is blonder than yellowfin tuna but is so tasty, is caught locally and makes some dynamite poke bowls!! You can sesame crust it and pan sear it. You can dice it and make tuna tartare. We are even selling some of our restaurant grade nori sheets if you want to make rolls!
Second up is lobster tails! Now, we've had fun with lobster tails from Canada and from South Africa. This time, we are travelling to the most mystical of places, the Gallapagos Islands! The lobster tails are absolutely stunning and from spiny lobsters. The tails are packed with meat and are just delicious. We will be selling 6oz tails instead of 4oz tails for an ever more special thing. Plenty of ways to prepare but check out our website for an idea or two!
We may have one more special thing but not sure quite yet.
We do have a few special items that we lined up for you all. The first is an award winning cheese from Perrystead Dairy in Kensington called 'Intergalactic". This is an amazingly flavorful cheese that can be eaten cold and can even be warmed up in the little wooden box it comes in to make it ooey gooey good. Or, take some and add it to some sauteed mushrooms or over potatoes..OMG..
The second thing is a fun idea we came up with talking to CJ, owner of Oui Pastry in Old City. We will sell a 1lb sheet of puff pastry with chocolate batons. What does this mean? Homemade Chocolate croissants!! Or, you can use the puff pastry for something else and just eat the chocolate. Whatever. One sheet can be rolled out into a 12 inch by 12 inch square and then divided into rectangles of 4 by 3 giving you 8 chocolate croissants. We'll post up a video on Wednesday for you to follow. Mother's day brunch with these things stinking up the house? Good idea..
Fresh Jumbo lump crab meat is still around. Thank goodness and goodness being the operative word. Hokkaido scallops are around and guess what? The cost dipped a touch so the price dips a touch. Yay!!
Mussels are the shellfish of the week. Oysters will be Belles Du Jour from New Brunswick, Canada. Ocean fish is around. The kippered salmon this week will be miso glazed. Drool...All the other usual suspects will also be in play so lots to look forward to!!
And that's it from me, folks. Always nice chatting with you..If we don't see some of you this week, Happy Mother's day to you. We celebrate you!
Look out for the order form Wednesday at 11am.
Peace
Robert Amar
