Week of February 7 2022 Small World Seafood Update

So much fun with skate wing and rainbow trout this past weekend!! And the puff pastry? Some beautiful Salmon Wellingtons and mushroom pies!!

This weekend coming is kind of an unofficial long week of sorts since Valentine's Day is on a Monday and the Super Bowl is on Sunday. You know, I am always a little curious about working backwards from people's birthdays to see if conception happened during a big holiday or event. Like all those babies born after the Eagles won the Super Bowl. It comes from the fact that my parents were married on New Year's day and I was born end of September. They didn't waste any time..But now with the Super Bowl unusually late and close to Valentine's Day, how are we to know 9 months later which was the culprit? We are messing with the forces of nature here, people...and the horoscope implications, I don't even want to go there...

Aaaanyway, love is in the air in February and we love that. So we will celebrate it whether you are in a relationship or not. After all, self love is the first love that really matters. So, first off, the fresh fish of the week will be lovely fluke fillet from our friends in New Jersey! This fish is our version of flounder with a firmness of texture and a sweetness of flavor that is perfect for a romantic meal. In fact, the fillets are kind of heart shaped if you squint a tad.

Also on the  menu this week will be more Canadian lobster tails! Everybody had so much fun with them over New Year's with them.

Also fun and delish, we will do more of those Dungeness crab clusters we sold a month ago. Super packed with meat and sooooo good with some Bibou butter. I mean, come on.

Now, all these things also work for a Super Bowl party, too, in case you were thinking about what to have. Another thing we will carry this week to help along that path of menu building is more crab meat to make some crab cakes with.

Since some people were away last week, we decided that we would continue this week with more puff pastry from Oui Pastries in Old City as well as more Ocean fish spread that we make along with el Camino in Norther Liberties. That stuff is so good.

Two special features this week will be another specialty cheese from Perrystead Creamery in Kensington. You guys adored Yoav's award winning Intergalactic cheese a few weeks back. Well, he is making a special cheese for us this week called The Love. Heart shaped and dusted  rose petal powder. I mean, if that's not a turn on..

The second is a luxurious item that some of you have been asking about. Uni, or sea urchin. Now, before a few of you pop a head vein, we will not be selling the Uni in it's fresh form. We will be making an Uni butter this week which we will freeze and sell to you that way. Uni butter, kind of like foie gras butter, can then be added to pastas, made into a sauce for your scallops or fluke (or lobster tails, that's lux) but can also be spread over toast with a little sea salt and maybe some nori strips. Anyway, this stuff is supposed to be an aphrodisiac so...

Mussels are the shellfish of the week. Oysters will be coming from the West Coast for the first time this week. Hoshi Oysters from Washington State are similar to kumamotos if you are familiar with those. I've seem recipes with people out there grilling them with a slice of uni butter and bread crumbs...Yeah...Not East Coast Rockefeller but more like West Coast Bill Gates...Shnazzy..

Well, that's a lot of info but I think you get the gist. This weekend of for having fun, loving the people around you including yourself. What song captures that more than this one? None. Period. Rest my case. It's over....

 I know, I know.. that's a lot of words....

Peace
