Week of September 12, 2022 Small World Seafood Update

I know it may sound a little weird. We see you guys pick up seafood every week face to face and we notice your excitement with the stuff you pick up. The weird part is that we feel excited for you and can't wait to see what you make!!! Bizarre, right? But it's true. Every week.

And although it is usually nice to project an air of sophistication with sushi grade tuna, salmon and scallops, I loooooove that you guys are also like "and I'll also have some hot dogs and fish cakes!!!" Hahaha...You are all so friggin cool. (In my humble opinion, you are still sophisticated since the quality of both is top level stuff).

Aaanyway, September rolls along with more fun stuff as i promised but first, let's talk fish. We are smack dab in the middle of Canadian swordfish season and what more can I say about this amazing fish? Well, a few things. You know me. First of all, this is some of the best sword you'll get anywhere. Clean tasting, creamy, melt in your mouth good. It is from cold pristine waters from up north meaning no pollution and no mercury and other by products from the petroleum industry in the waters. Great stuff!

Second on the featured list is something we haven't had in many months. Frozen Hamachi loin! Hamachi, also known as yellowtail in sushi restaurants. Each loin ranges from 1.1-1.6 pounds each and are ready to slice up and eat after you thaw it out. You can make a simple hamachi crudo by cutting thin slices, topping off with sliced jalapenos and drizzling our delish ponzu sauce. Stellar. And a fifth of the price of eating it out. We have a few more recipes on our site for hamachi. A great item to use for a large group. Especially if you are trying to menu plan for Rosh Hashanah dinner in a couple of weeks.

Our beautiful Faroe Island salmon is not only sushi grade, it's not only amazing roasted, grilled or pan fried, it's also getting cheaper!! The price went down so we take it down, baby! $26 for 2lb!!

Scallops from Hokkaido have been the belle of the ball this year. Good reason, too!! These...are...the...best...scallops..exclamation point.

And speaking of prices going down, crab meat prices have gone down too!! Lump will be $22 and Jumbo lump is down to $33 per pound!! Inflation? What inflation?

And now for the moment you have been waiting for. The special features this week will be two wildly popular features from days past. Labneh from Erivan Dairy and applewood smoked bacon from El Camino (belly bacon not Canadian bacon).

First, the labneh. This is what is also know as yogurt cheese. Now, some of you have made this yourself but you've never used their milk which is arguably some of the best milk around these parts used by many cheese makers because of that. This is great used as a spread on toast or pita or a bagel but it is outrageous matched up with savory things such as beets, roasted meats and, Mediterranean marinated grilled swordfish...Just saying..

And that bacon. High quality pork belly from PA cured extra long and double smoked, this is bacon like you have never tasted. Flavorful, deep and purges very little fat in your pan. I am telling, stock up..

For frozen fish, back to little grouper fillets. These things have been an absolute hit with everyone who got some. Including me. Dredge, egg wash, panko and deep fried at 375F served with several dipping sauces, better than chicken fingers!!! By far!!!!

Mussels are the shellfish of the week and oysters are Tuxedos from PEI. All the other usual suspects will be around too.

This is a long email so I am not sure how many of you have tuned out already but for those still reading on, this weekend, we will send out our first email for regional delivery within 20 miles of our shop. Some of you in the city have asked if you could order like that if you live in the city and the answer is of course. You will have to sign up for that email list. Just click on the link below. Also, I sent out the first email explaining a few things about what to expect. While you are on our main website, you can read more about that under weekly emails.

For everybody else in the city, no worries. We are not going to stop coming to your neighborhood.

And that's it from me, folks.

Peace
