October 18, 2021 Small World Seafood Update
You know when you see the world in a particular way that ain't so good and then something happens that shakes up the etch-a-sketch of your visual apparatus and makes everything seem rosier? Not exactly? Well, let me explain.
I am down in Brigantine enjoying a pleasant weekend when I make the mistake of catching up on the news of the day. Ugh..My mood as joyful as it was within my immediate surroundings begins to sour thinking about how crazy the world is and how selfish and hurtful people can be.
So I decide to turn on a soccer match to free my mind and escape. Newcastle United were hosting Tottenham in Premier League play. Now, Newcastle United is an historic club with a die-hard base of fans. Not a pleasant place for any opposing team. At around the 40th minute of play with Tottenham preparing for a corner kick, players stopped to react to fans in the East stands. The fans were calling to the players stop play and to help. A Newcastle fan had collapsed from cardiac arrest. Tottenham players, the opposing team, ran to the referee to tell them to stop play and another ran to the sidelines to get a medic with a defibrillator.
The home fans asked for the game to stop. The opposing team rushed to help notify referees and medics....Everyone got together to stop what was so important to them in order to save one man's life. He was resuscitated and rushed to the hospital and is in stable condition. They ALL saved his life! The game went on afterward to end on a score few would remember when thinking of that day.
And there you have it. My perception lenses had been turned backward and this reversed it. Hope for humanity reignited because people cared. And they do. And we do. And you do. Now, I am not one to believe that there are random acts of kindness. Random acts of meanness, yes, but not random acts of kindness. When it comes to kindness, I believe these acts are intentional. I also believe that these acts can trigger other acts of kindness from those that receive it. And so, how do you reverse the color of your lenses from dark to pink? Do something nice for someone. Watch what happens to them and watch what happens to you. Just a little effort and intention can change the world. There was proof.
Anyway, I suppose I should talk about fish at some point, huh? A little bit of a tough week to start but I definitely know we will have Norwegian salmon fillets (salmon salmon). I think we will have a sushi grade fish of some kind. I also think we may have a seasonal fish that was just raves last year when we featured it.
Clams are the shellfish of the week. Oysters are Beach Plums from Massachusetts. Scallops are around for another week. Yay! Perrystead Dairy schmear (real Philadelphia cream cheese) is available again and maybe one or to more surprises.
That's it from me. And just so you know, it is each and everyone of you every week that flood us with intentional acts of kindness directed toward us and it fills us up. I want you to know that we see it and feel it. Truly, we thank you.
Look out for the order form Wednesday at 11am for Fairmount/444 N 4th St
